If you have ever wondered how social media personality Francis Bourgeois was able to get his now-famous forehead shot, here’s your answer. The GoPro Max lets you livestream video with a 360-degree camera, and if you put it on your forehead, you can achieve the Francis Bourgeois fish-eye look. Right now, the GoPro Max is $399 (originally $499.99) after a $100 discount. After looking at price comparison tools, I can say this is the lowest price this product has ever been.
The GoPro Max launched in October 2019, and to this day, it is still considered one of the best GoPros by PCmag. What makes the GoPro Max unique is that it has a dual-lens camera that lets it get a 360-degree view. This creates the aforementioned fish-eye effect that many creators seem to love. It also works great when creating video for VR headsets. On a regular screen, it’ll output a 16:9 image.
For those who are big on creating content on the go, the GoPro Max enables livestreaming video, has a strong stabilizer to prevent shaky footage, and has the best microphone of any GoPro. The GoPro Max is perfectly tailored for bloggers and social media creators, but being a creator is certainly not a requirement for owning one. The software tools for the 360 footage are user-friendly, and the camera has a touchscreen to maneuver between settings. You’ll also get wireless transfer over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so you can use the GoPro app to do most of your work.
While the 360 view is cool, it won’t offer the best resolution. It captures footage at 5.6K quality, but once you extract the video to a 16:9 frame, you’ll end up with 1080p footage, according to PCMag’s review. For a more traditional single-lens camera, you might prefer the GoPro HERO10 Black for $249. But if you’re after the Francis Bourgeois look, then this is your GoPro.
