Given the high price tag of (and mixed reception to) Apple’s Vision Pro, the Meta Quest 2 isn’t looking so bad. The fact of the matter is, like a new video game console at launch, the pricey headset is suffering from a scarcity of games and apps. The Meta Quest 2, on the other hand, has been around for years and only seems to get better with time. And right now, you can get the 128GB Meta Quest 2 from Woot for $229, down from $299 and the cheapest I’ve seen it being sold new, even beating Black Friday prices.
Woot’s sale continues for the rest of March, or until all of the headsets have been sold. If you have Amazon Prime, you get free shipping; otherwise, it’ll be $6 to ship. (Heads up, though: Woot only ships to the 48 contiguous U.S.)
The Meta Quest 2 is much cheaper than its competition, including the new Meta Quest 3, which starts at $499.99. The Quest 2 isn’t the latest model but lets you do all the fun stuff, like streaming movies and TV shows, watching porn, playing Xbox Game Pass, hanging out with friends or family, and other things elaborated upon in more detail in our sister site PCMag’s review. (They rated it “outstanding.”)
Although the Meta Quest 3 has eclipsed the Meta Quest 2, the Quest 2 is still the best option for a more affordable VR headset. Most new games are still compatible with the Quest 2, including Steam Link PC VR games. Just keep in mind the 128GB option is the only one available from Woot, and if that is not enough storage for you, there is no way to add more.
