It seems like we’ve been waiting forever, but finally, the day has almost arrived. Yes, Disney Plus is finally premiering Turner & Hooch, a new TV series based on the quote-unquote classic 1989 Tom Hanks film about a police officer and his canine partner. Oh, also you can watch some kinda new Marvel movie too, if you’re into that sort of thing.
What’s that? A family-friendly series about a police officer (with Josh Peck taking over the role from Hanks, and I bet Disney is thanking whatever dark spirits it is beholden to that they didn’t hire the other star of Drake and Josh) isn’t at the top of your list in 2021? Fine—yes, if you’re willing to shell out an extra $30 for “Premiere Access,” you can also watch Black Widow, the Scar-Jo-starring prequel that was originally supposed to come out way back in May 2020. (The first post-pandemic entry in the MCU will also be screening in theaters the same day, if you’re feeling vaccinated and adventurous.)
Also coming to the streaming service this month—for a fee—is another delayed theatrical release: the Dwayne Johnson/Emily Blunt odd couple adventure comedy Jungle Cruise. Will Disney be able to turn another problematic theme park ride into a successful franchise? Well, the trailer looks fun at least.
