Trader Joe’s did not have a good week: They made headlines for recalling two types of cookies for potentially containing rocks, then insects were found in some of their broccoli cheddar soups, and then Trader Joe’s put out an announcement on Friday warning their customers not to eat their falafels because they might also contain rocks.

Similarly to their cookies recall, the announcement says that their supplier alerted them that the Trader Joe’s branded “Fully Cooked Falafel” product may contain rocks. The following 35 states and Washington D.C. have all of their stores affected by the recall: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
States not mentioned above are not affected by the recall, according to Trader Joe’s. The affected locations have already removed their rock-hard products and “destroyed” them.
What to do if you purchased the recalled falafels
Trader Joe’s doesn’t provide any specific identifying information to determine whether the frozen falafels in your freezer are part of the recall—it simply urges customers to not eat any of these. Instead, discard them or return them to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund. If you have questions about the recall, you can call Trader Joe’s Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817 Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Pacific Time or send them an email.
