New Delhi: The last few months have been tumultuous for workers at tech companies, with several of them announcing broad job cuts. Facebook’s parent company Meta, Twitter, Microsoft, Byju’s, Snap, and several other companies have announced massive layoffs in the last two months. Yesterday, Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company would be laying off 11,000 employees to reduce costs.A Meta employee, who is on maternity leave, revealed on LinkedIn that she was among those being fired. Anneka Patel, communications manager at Facebook, also revealed the moment when she came to know that she has been laid off.Ms Patel said she had woken up at 3 am to attend to her three-month-old daughter Emilia. She had heard that the company could be making significant reductions and was checking her work email regarding layoffs.”At 5:35 am I got the email that I had been included in the layoffs. My heart sank,” she wrote.”So, what’s next? That’s a tough one to answer. My maternity leave is due to end in February and while these first few months of motherhood have been some of the most challenging of my life, I wouldn’t have traded them for the world,” Ms Patel added.Meta’s job reductions follow cutbacks at Twitter last week, which saw that company cut roughly 50% of its workforce following its sale to Elon Musk. Those layoffs were chaotic, with many employees finding out they had lost their jobs when they were suddenly cut off from Slack or email. Musk said the moves were necessary to stem losses at the social network. He later asked some fired workers to return.Featured Video Of The DayPolitics Over Lotus On India’s G-20 Symbol
