To harness generative artificial intelligence (AI) in education and to mitigate the risk of creating false evidence (see J. Bak-Coleman et al. Nature 617, 462–464; 2023), governments must extend evidence standards to personalize AI education in terms of learning content and student support. They should also fund an independent verification system for educational technology (EdTech).
