DIY Snowflake Crafts

I have always loved snowflakes ever since I was a little girl. I have fond memories as a child just sitting on what looked like a huge blanket of snow and looking at these little things in awe and with complete amazement! Every single one of them seemed like a little miracle to me. Unfortunately, the days of seeing real snowflakes are extremely rare for me now. I live in a different part of Texas so I guess I have to settle on making my own snowflakes. I was quite happy to find countless snowflake craft tutorials while searching on the internet. So, I’ve decided to share some of these amazing snowflake crafts with others who share my love of snowflakes and appreciate them as much as I do. Paper snowflakes could never compare to the real thing but they are still lots of fun 🙂

I love this beaded snowflake ornament.. I love the look of this snowflake with the spirals on the ends. This would be beautiful as an ornament or attach it to your bow on your wrapped gift. See this tutorial at Craftster.

Make this large and pretty snowflake out of doilies. This would be a lovely addition to your holiday décor! This project is at the dollar store crafts website. I love this site.. it shows you how to do projects made from inexpensive purchases at the dollar stores… and this one in particular is made using supplies purchased at the Dollar Tree which is one of my favorites. Another beaded snowflake! This is labeled a kids craft but It would be great for any age. I love the look of these clear bead snowflakes. These could be used as ornaments or even as gift toppers.. Great set of instructions here at Associated Content:

I LOVE this snowflake garland made from stiffened felt, ric rac and sequins for embellishment. This is just gorgeous and very simple to make! This tutorial is great with 2 pages of very cute snowflake patterns to print and use. Basically just cut your snowflakes out, decorate and attach to ric rac or ribbon and you’re good to go.. At first glance this looked like a pretty plastic snowflake of sorts and then realized it was actually made from those plastic rings that canned six packs come in. I was amazed! It was perfect for this tutorial list as I am such a nut about recycling and reusing things. Who would have thought you could do something like this with those disposable plastic ring things?! THIS is so creative!

Here is a tutorial for a diy snowflake card. I love how the snowflake has been sewn onto the card. It is a really nice touch. All you have to do is cut a snowflake out of paper just like when you were a kid and of course if you do not have a sewing machine you can always just glue it on. Pick up some etching cream and make this gorgeous etched snowflake plate. Make one as a gift for a friend or make a whole set for yourself. Whatever you want to do this is a quick and easy project that just about anyone can do. Maybe you have some old clear glass plates that would be great for this type of thing. Grab them and get to work! This would be an awesome addition to your table setting during those winter months.

One word for these little snowflakes! Cute! I don’t think you can ever go wrong with buttons. These have that sort of country, whimsical charm that I love and I’m sure many of you do too. While we are on the subject of buttons and snowflakes I found this one as well at a craft page for parents and toddlers, ha! This one is a little different than the others but they are all darling! This tutorial shows some different ways to do it using not only buttons but rhinestones, sequins, etc.. this is a great tutorial and these snowflakes are perfect for kids and adults as well. Here is a handmade greeting card. The sequined snowflake on the front is just precious. You can use the snowflake template/pattern at the link below to apply your sequins for the snowflake. This isn’t a tutorial on how to make the actual paper part of the card but it does have the template for the snowflake. Read under the card photo and she tells how she did it. Looks to me like she printed the template right onto the cardstock. Have fun!

Paper snowflakes have been around a long time. I remember doing them as a kid but this really isn’t just a kids craft. You can decorate lots of things using paper snowflakes like the photo to the right from here.. This site has many photos of paper snowflakes…. you should definitely go and check it out. Polymer clay snowflakes.. I love the iridescent color of these. These would make stunning tree ornaments or add them to your gift wrap as an embellishment. So pretty…… see the how to here:

Make a special ornament with decorative plastic gems, clear beads and soda cans. Yes, that’s right. The metal part of this is made with soda cans. They used an embossing machine to emboss the snowflakes but it does include instructions to emboss by hand. I love this not only because it’s beautiful but it’s another way to recycle and reuse aluminum cans..

I hope you enjoyed my list of snowflake craft tutorials. Of course this is just a small portion of the several you can find out there. One of the things that I learned through my search of snowflake crafts is the versatility of the paper snowflake and how it’s not really just a kids craft.
