But sattvik food can actually be quite interesting and wide-ranging too. It’s the lack of recipe ideas that is a problem. We get that no one wants to experiment and spend long hours in the kitchen while fasting. It’s samak-sabudana cheela and makhana raita. New yet familiar! The best part is that you can make a premix for the cheela in bulk and make different kinds of dishes with it all nine days. You’ll love the fact that there is hardly any oil used to make the cheela. Also, you don’t have to soak sabudana every time. Grind them in a mixer-grinder to make a fine powder. Add some black pepper powder, sendha namak to taste and peanut (moongfali) powder. Store this pre-mix in an airtight jar for up to one month in a refrigerator.Take some of the instant pre-mix, add green chillies, grated ginger, jeera powder, peanut powder, grated boiled potatoes and coriander leaves. Make a batter by adding water gradually. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes. Heat a non-stick pan, grease it with some ghee and cook the cheela with the batter from both sides. Remember to cook on low-medium flame with the lid closed.Make raita for the cheela. Dry roast some makhanas for 1-2 minutes. Let them cool down. Whisk some curd till creamy. Add black pepper powder, roasted jeera powder, green chilli, sendha namak and coriander leaves. Mix in the roasted makhanas and mix well.
