Being an adult in 2022 is stressful. There’s a lot going on in and around our lives, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by it all. If you’re finding yourself in such a state, you might do from a pep talk. Specifically, a pep talk from a kindergartener.
“Peptoc” is a hotline started by Asherah Weiss and Jessica Martin, art teachers at West Side Elementary School in Healdsburg, Calif. They were impressed by the resilience their students showed through negative events like the pandemic and California wildfires. They worked with those students to record positive messages for people who need a little boost in their day. It’s as adorable as it sounds.
When you first dial the hotline, (707) 873-7862, you’re greeted by a cheery message: “Hi, Welcome to Peptoc! A public art project by Westside School!” From there, you’ll hear different pep talk options, depending on your current mood.
- Press 1 if you’re feeling mad, frustrated, or nervous.
- Press 2 if you need words of encouragement or life advice.
- Press 3 if you need a pep talk from kindergarteners.
- Press 4 if you need to hear kids laughing with delight.
- Press 5 for encouragements in Spanish.
- Press 6 to hear how awesome you look.
- Press 7 for bonus pep talks.
With each option, you’ll hear unscripted words of encouragement from elementary schoolers. You can expect affirmations like, “Lady, you’re doing great,” alongside advice like, “If you’re nervous, go get your wallet, and spend it on ice cream and juice.” Wise beyond their years.
