The Last of Us Part II: Remastered is finally out for the PlayStation 5, bringing new modes and behind-the-scene levels. Starting today, you can buy the new remastered version for $49.99. But before you go on your merry way killing the infected, there’s a cheaper way to get the new game.

How to upgrade to the remastered version for $10

The PlayStation Store is offering gamers who have the PlayStation 4 The Last of Us Part II version a way to upgrade to the new remastered game for $10. If you have the disc copy, you’ll only be able to do the $10 upgrade if you have a PS5 console with the disc drive. Once you upgrade, you will have to insert the disc into your PS5 anytime you want to play the remastered digital version. This means if you have the PS5 Digital Edition, which has no disc reader, you won’t be able to get the $10 upgrade.

You can still upgrade if you don’t own the PS4 version

If you’re fine with inserting the disc on your PS5 every time you want to play, you can buy the PS4 The Last of Us Part II and upgrade it for $10 and still save yourself some money compared to flat-out buying the PS5 Last of Us Part II: Remastered for $49.99. You can find the game new for $29.99 from Walmart and “pre-owned” from GameStop for the same price.

Playing on the PS5 will be better than the PS4 version simply because it’s a much more powerful console. You’ll have a faster load time and better frame rates. You’ll also have “No Return,” a new roguelike survival game mode. You’ll also be able to explore alternative early-development versions of the game with “Lost Levels” and have new unlockable characters and weapon skins.
