6 of The Best Modern Day Artists

I am consumed by all things artistic and I’ve had the privilege of coming across so many different types of art in my short time on this Earth. Art is ever-changing, but I’d like to show you who I think are some of the best modern artists today.

I picked out 17 different artists that have their own styles and medium and put them in alphabetical order, so that you don’t think I’m playing favorites. But let’s get right into the art and stimulate your mind.

Alex Pardee

He writes, he draws and he designs clothing (I actually own a shirt designed by him); he’s Alex Pardee from California.

He has such a wonderfully odd style that sometimes comes off as shocking until you stare at it a little longer and realize that it’s actually quite beautiful.

Art is Alex’s therapy, to help him overcome anxiety and depression.

And, after browsing some of his art, it may come of no surprise to you that a couple of his childhood inspirations were the Garbage Pail Kids and Tales from the Crypt comics.

You can now see his bizarre characters all over whether it’s in books, CD art, skateboards, clothing or even stuffed animals. And you can pick up a lot of this at his store: Zerofriends.

So, head on over to his site, Eye Suck Ink, to keep up on what crazy creations this man comes up with.

Andre Kutscherauer is a 3D artist from Munich, Germany.

He uses a variety of different software programs to create some really thought-provoking art, for which he’s won a number of awards for.

Outside of that, he seems to do a lot of concept work for consumer products.

If you go visit HIS SITE you’ll soon realize, as you wait for it to load, that he’s very gifted with what he can do with a computer and the right software.

Andrew Bell, from Brooklyn, New York, has a wacky cartoon style that’s hard not to like.

He likes taking everyday things and adding his own special twist to it to please, or shock, the eyes of his fans.

He comes out with new creature creations often, so you know he’s busy with his pen and pencil.

And Andrew has his own shop, called Dead Zebra, Inc., where you can get his artwork on a variety things like clothing, toys, books or just buy the art straight up.

So, head on over to Andrew’s site, the Creatures in my Head, and see what odd creation he’s come up with today.

Yes, I included Banksy; even though his art has gotten a bit trendy, he’s still a good artist.

Banksy’s an anonymous street artist from the UK, whose mostly stenciled “graffiti” actually has a lot of meaning behind it.

He’s not just tagging his name all over town; he’s making you think, when you stop and look at his art.

And I think that should be the purpose of all art; to stop and make you think about the meaning behind it.

Now, there’s a “shop” where you can pick up some of Banky’s bold art, but it’s not for sale; you can just download it for free.

Brian Dettmer is a very creative book artist from Atlanta, Georgia.

When he was in college in Chicago, he was mostly into painting, but eventually moved onto creating very artistic versions of books.

He bends, folds, cuts, rolls, sands and stacks books in a way that makes you look at a book like you’ve never seen one before. And I really wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never seen a book look the way Brian modifies them.

But, head on over to Brian’s Site to see more awe-inspiring book (and other) creations.

Cliff Maynard is a tattoo artist from Pittsburgh, PA, but his art isn’t the obvious.

You see, as Cliff was studying mosaics in school, he came up with a very creative, some would say green, way of creating his mosaics.

And you can take my green comment any way you’d like, but what Cliff does is he recycles what stoners throw away: roach paper. Yes, he creates mosaics out of used rolling papers that people smoked out of! Crazy, isn’t it?

The art’s amazing and so is the idea, and method he came up with.

So, head over to Cliff’s site, Chronic Art (his site’s been down for a while, so I took the broken link out – sorry!), and see some of his literally funky art.

I hope this art has stimulated some kind of emotion from you.

I don’t think any life is complete without some kind of art, whether you created it yourself or not.
