When I was 11, I could imagine no more subversive television show than Beavis and Butthead. It looked like a cartoon—you know, for kids!—but focused almost exclusively on stuff that was decidedly off-limits in my household: swearing, watching music videos, hitting my brother in the head with a baseball bat, setting stuff on fire. (Fire! Fire! Heh heh heh.) So I don’t know quite how to feel, nearly 30 years later, that the show is back and the only word I can think of to describe it is…quaint?
Today, the internet has brought all of humanity’s depravities a mere google away; seeing two dumb kids get into stupid trouble seems like just what I need to distract myself from…everything. Plus, those kids haven’t aged a day. All that’s changed with the 2022 reboot, premiering Aug. 4, is that the duo will apparently be making fun of TikTok videos instead of music videos, which only makes sense, both for licensing reasons and because the show is no longer on MTV, which doesn’t play music videos anymore anyway.
If you want more Beavis and Butthead, more episodes of the original series also arrive on the streamer on Aug. 3.
There are other goodies on tap for animation fans, including a South Park 25th anniversary (no, that can’t be right, I am not that old) concert special, arriving Aug. 14; and the eagerly awaited third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks (Aug. 25), secretly the second-best show of the current Trek renaissance (after Strange New Worlds, of course).
Paramount+ is also dropping a couple of original films, including Orphan: First Kill (Aug. 19), a sequel to 2009’s Orphan, a horror movie with one of my all-time favorite ludicrous twist endings.

The apps are intuitive, the playback is crystal clear, and the newly redesigned remote finally works like it’s supposed to: as a TV remote.
