Under the programmes, all villages, gram panchayats, districts, states and Union Territories have declared themselves open-defecation free by building over 100 million toilets in rural India.The programme is now moving towards the next phase, called Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), which will reinforce open-defecation free behaviour and focus on providing interventions for safe management of solid and liquid waste in villages.
