Most IPS monitors are flat, and intended for regular business use, and curved monitors are mostly for gaming. But the 34″ LG Curved UltraWide IPS monitor is both/neither. It’s a weird yet interesting hybrid monitor, and right now, you can get it for $249.99 after a 50% discount from the LG website. The monitor was last at this price in December.
This LG monitor came out in 2022, and as I said, it’s an odd duck. The point of curved monitors is to give you an “immersive” experience. If you place it right, your peripheral vision will be covered by the screen, making you feel like you’re in the action. This is great when playing games or watching media.
However, with a refresh rate of just 60hz, this monitor doesn’t make a great gaming monitor. What it does offer is IPS (In-Plane Switching), which results in better viewing angles, which is great for color accuracy and consistency. People who do creative work, like graphic designers, pro photographers, or video editors, can work better with IPS monitors. The 5ms response time means as long as you’re not a pro gamer, you won’t notice deficiencies in how long it takes for colors to shift from one to another. The UltraWide resolution is 3440 x 1440, between 2K and 4K.
