For the next few days, Samsung is practically giving away their new smart home hub, the SmartThings Station—if you’re quick enough to catch it. For $1, a limited number of people can snag one each day, starting at about noon ET through Sept. 17.
How smart home hubs make managing many smart home devices easier
Table of Contents
Smart home hubs are the next big thing in smart home tech, allowing you to manage all of your devices, regardless of manufacturer, through one control. Usually, that’s an app like Google Home, Apple Homekit, Alexa, or Smartthings. But we’re starting to see physical manifestations of these apps so you have a place in your house where you can physically affect all your smart home devices.
The Samsung SmartThings Station is exactly that: a plug-and-play device you can plant anywhere in your home to control lights, alarms, speakers, and anything else running through your SmartThings app.
For Samsung device users, the Station makes a lot of sense
As hubs go, the Station is less tech-looking than others like the Apple HomePod, Google Nest Hub, or the Echo Show. It also acts as a charging station, and in some cases, it can track down your earbuds (if they’re part of the Samsung solar system; otherwise you’ll have to wait until Matter has a real presence). Speaking of which, the Station supports Matter and Threads, so it’s forward looking.
The Station is normally $60 retail, so while this is a good deal, it isn’t out of reach if you miss the sale. That said, if you’re already tied into SmartThings or have a Samsung phone, washing machine, earbuds, or lights, a charging pad that also allows you to track down your phone or keep the dryer running might make sense. For everyone else, you can run the devices that run through SmartThings, and eventually, devices that are Matter or Threads enabled.
To get the deal, go here starting at about noon ET to watch a product video and claim a promo code. If you get an “invalid code” message at checkout, that means all $1 promos codes have been redeemed for the day, but you can try again every day through Sept. 17.
This is part of an event called Discover Samsung, which features a number of other legitimately worthwhile sales, so it’s worth taking a quick look. For example, Buds Pro 2 are almost 50% off right now, and there are some impressive sales on Samsung appliances, too.
