Dumas Beach is an urban beach along the Arabian Sea, located 21 kilometres (13 mi) southwest of the City of Surat in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is a popular tourist destination in South Gujarat. Dumas Beach is also famous for being in the top 35 haunted spots in India….
Apart from the beach, places of interest at Dumas include the Dariya Ganesh Temple located adjacent to the main beach. The promenade has several shops selling Indian snacks like Bhajiya (including the famous “Lashkari Tomato Bhajiya”), Pav Bhaji, sweet corn roasted on charcoal, besides Chinese food. There are also several restaurants serving Chinese and Indian food are also available, with vegetarian options for people. Restrooms are available near Morarji Desai Circle.

According to claims from a Mumbai-based journalist, she is said to have sensed the presence of paranormal entities and experienced other supernatural activities while visiting the beach after dusk.
The legend of the beach being haunted is said to be rooted in the widespread belief that the beach was formerly a burial ground and is also attributed to the black sands and isolated location of the beach. Most of the reports of supernatural occurrences on the beach remain unproven and unverified and might be an urban legend so far.
Dumas Beach is considered one of the most haunted places in Gujarat. The beach is renowned for two things, one for its black sand and other for being haunted! It is said that Dumas Beach was once used as a Hindu burial ground and hence is possessed by several haunting spirits that never left the region.
Folklore explains that the existence of black sand is because of amount of ash created by burning the dead which got mixed with white sand of the beach and turned dark in shade.

People also claim that they heard weird sounds coming from the beach, like people laughing and someone crying, even when there’s not a single soul present.
Not only this, locals also say that they have witnessed white apparitions and moving orbs along with myriad other mysterious activities that can’t be explained.
However, many claim at night, the beach takes on an eerie vibe. Most of the natives say that the spirits walk down on the beach at night. To this day, there have been numerous reports of paranormal activity on the beach, where visitors claim to hear strange noises and voices, and loud laughter. White apparitions and moving orbs have been sighted and other inexplicable activities have been witnessed, too. Also, many tourists are known to go missing while strolling on the beach at midnight, claim the locals.
Another incident reported is that dogs in the area behave strangely around the beach after dark, depicting their discomfort with vocal warnings, like howling and barking. Whether fact or fiction, dogs here sense the invisible presences and start barking, which therefore alerts people on the beach to stop walking further.
The Dumas Beach has been reported as being one of the most haunted places in India. One such incident was reported by a group of friends, native of Surat, who spent a day at the beach.
Though they didn’t witness any paranormal activity, their photographs told a different tale – the photos had spirit orbs in it. It can be said that there is some sort of negative energy or eerie vibe at night. However, there are some who consider it a mere myth or superstition.
