In an effort to prevent young kids from stumbling across mature content—either on their own profile, or on a parent or older sibling’s profile—Disney+ has announced added parental controls. Here’s how to set them up.

To adjust parental controls, start by clicking on the profile you want to edit on the Disney+ website or mobile app, and then scroll to “Parental Controls.”

From there, you’ll have the option to designate their account as a “Kids Profile,” a feature that was previously available and curates content primarily from television shows rated TV-Y7-FV and movies rated G in the United States (or equivalent ratings from outside the U.S.).

Or you can now select from one of seven “Content Ratings,” which filters content from the most restricted TV-Y rating, up to a TV-14 rating. However, you can’t designate the profile as a “Kids Profile” and set a specific content rating—you have to choose one method of filtering or the other.

From the Parental Controls section, you can also now add a four-digit PIN to restrict kids from accessing your profile or the profile of an older sibling who may be able to watch more mature content.

As one last line of defense against kids wandering across another profile, you can set up the “Kid-Proof Exit” feature, which makes it harder for young kids to leave their own profile, by requiring them to answer a simple question first. However, this feature only works if you have them designated as a “Kids Profile.”
