Depending on who you ask, the 1990s were the last great decade for romantic comedies. Sure, there were some in the early 2000s too, but the genre—known for cheesy plot lines and setting unrealistic dating expectations for pretty much everyone—sort of fizzled after that.

But we’re not here to debate when the golden age of romantic comedies took place. We’re here to talk about a monthlong position that pays $1,000 to watch 10 classic rom-coms from the ‘90s. Here’s what to know.

What the job entails

The successful applicant will be working with Shane Co., and the task is pretty straightforward: Watch and take notes on 10 pre-selected romantic comedies from the 1990s over the course of one month. They will be given a worksheet for each film to fill out as they watch, keeping track of specific details.

The 10 romantic comedies chosen for the assignment are:

  1. Pretty Woman
  2. 10 Things I Hate About You
  3. Never Been Kissed
  4. Clueless
  5. There’s Something About Mary
  6. Sleepless in Seattle
  7. My Best Friend’s Wedding
  8. You’ve Got Mail
  9. Runaway Bride
  10. Notting Hill

The person selected for the role will be notified no later than December 6, 2021, and must watch the movies, complete the worksheets, and send them back before December 27, 2021. Payment for the task is $1,000. The successful candidate will also receive a $50 Amazon gift card to rent the movies on the list.

How to apply

In order to apply for the position, you must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Ideally, Shane Co. would like someone with:

  • A true obsession with romantic comedies
  • A love for all things cinematic
  • The ability and availability to binge-watch 10 movies in a short period of time

The application process is simple: Fill out this form, and explain why you’re the perfect person for the position.

And feel free to gush. “Applicants’ level of love for rom-coms will be a strong factor for consideration, so don’t hold back! Tell us why you love love so much,” according to the job description.

The deadline for applications is Monday, November 22, 2021.
