When little kids are sick, they often need to take medicine—but when kids are sick, they also often feel strongly that they’d really rather not take medicine. Toddlers, in particular, are not ready for logical reasoning, such as, “You feel crappy! This will make you feel un-crappy!” They don’t care; they don’t want it. And you just want to get the meds into them without making the whole situation worse. This is what sprinkles are for.

The idea comes from Nikki, (@TinyHeartsEducation on Instagram and to us via PopSugar). You simply measure out the proper dose, squirt it into a spoon and shake some sprinkles over top. Like so:

Mary Poppins was not exactly being literal when she advised that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, but judging by the way that sweet little baby is absolutely chowing down on his medicine, she might as well have been.

Does the medicine actually taste better with sprinkles? I have never tried the combination, but instinct tells me it absolutely does not. But again, we’re not operating on logic here; when it comes to small children and medicine, it’s all about the presentation. And while medicine with sprinkles might sound semi-disgusting to you, it looks magical to them. And if that doesn’t work, try the juice box trick.
