Here you will find a long list of free crochet patterns for both dressy and casual shawls. They are beautiful to wear on cool evenings and are great items to create for special events. Crochet a prayer shawl to give comfort to a cancer patient.

Wear a casual one while sitting on the patio or on cool summer evenings or wear a dressy one at a wedding or more formal event. They come in handy on cool summer mornings too

Aphrodite Wrap – The pretty pattern is for a shawl that is worked in two sections. It is a charted pattern without a regular written pattern. If you enjoy working with crochet symbols, you’ll like crocheting this pattern.

Beautiful Crocheted Shawl – This desing is crocheted in a rectangle. It would work well for both a casual or dressy affair. The pattern would be a good one when you would like some warmth.

It is rated easy and is crocheted with Red Heart Soft yarn. You’ll also need a size H hook. The design is offered by the Better Home and Gardens website.

Concerto – This is a pretty pattern. You can see the photo above. It uses pompadour or sock yarn and will take you some time to crochet. A size E hook is used.

Connected Hearts – This is a beautiful triangular shaped shawl crocheted from a chart. The pretty design would work well for a dressy affair like a prom, wedding, or church. You’ll need to be able to do filet crochet. It was crocheted with Caron Simply Soft Yarn.

Elegant Crochet -This design uses light weight merino yarn and is by Fave Crafts. The shawl is lightweight and would be nice for spring.

Esplanade – This free shawl pattern is crocheted with sock/sweater yarn. The pattern is offered by the Free Vintage Crochet site. You’ll need 2 colors of yarn and a size 4 steel crochet hook. The photo is shown above. The shawl works best for casual wear. You could use it for a prayer shawl pattern too. It will take a bit longer to crochet since it uses a lightweight yarn.

Lacy Flower Shawl uses worsted weight yarn and a size G hook. Included is a tutorial to help you with the pattern. This is another pretty shawl that would work for any occasion.

Shawl Ministry – This site offers 15 prayer shawls for you to use. Of course they hope that you’ll crochet one of the shawls to donate. When my sister had cancer, she was offered a shawl right away. It gave her a good feeling that someone had prayed for her. I started another one for her, but sadly she passed away before I could finish it.

Simply Irresistible – Red Heart Yarn offers this pretty patterns. It would be a great accessory to a dressy dress that needs a little extra. The shawl is beautiful, but easy to crochet. You’ve got to see this one to appreciate it.

Even though it is crocheted with worsted weight yarn, it is lightweight. It should be quick to crochet since it uses a J hook.

Spanish This pretty creation is created in black and then covered with flowers. She used a Plastic hook size P. The yarn type isn’t specified, but it is worked with 2 strands of yarn together. I’d assume it is worsted weight yarn.

You should be able to crochet this quickly. It is offered by The Purple Kitty Yarn site.

Spring Shawl is worked with the crochet broomstick lace technique. You’ll need a size J hook and a size 35 knitting needle to work the lace. Any worsted weight yarn will work for this project.

Triangle Blue Shawl – The shawl is worked in double crochets and is rated Easy. Patons Lace yarn and a size F hook was used to create the shawl.

Triangle – This is an easy shawl to crochet. 2 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn was used in the pattern. You’ll also need a size J hook. A tassel is added at the bottom of the shawl, but this is optional.

Turning Circle Prayer Shawl – 6 colors of yarn are used in this colorful shawl project. It is worked in a circular pattern. The Emma Lemmon blog offers this as a free pattern.

Wagon Wheel – This is a good way to use up some of your yarn stash. Basically it is crocheted with triangular granny squares. It is suggested to use 3 or 4 colors of yarn, but you could use any combination you’d like. The pattern is offered the All Crafts Blog.
