Nichelle Nichols

Singer, Dancer, Actress and Advocate

Nichelle Nichols is an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and stars in a new online edition of Star Trek stories called “Renegades.”

She is responsible for dozens of astronauts from diverse backgrounds going to work for NASA from 1969 through 2017 through her work as a recruiter and good will ambassador for our national space agency.

A Young International Star

Beautiful as a famous young songstress in France, she was later known in America as an actress. She portrayed the communications officer Uhura of Star Trek: The Original Series and an admiral in the online film Star Trek: Of Gods and Men and the internet series Renegades with Walter Koenig and other original characters.

Nichelle, who was named Grace at birth, is also an author of the Saturn’s Child science fiction novel series.

She is beautiful in word and actions as well as in appearance during her senior years as well as during her youth. She wrote an autobiography that included some surprising material from her Star Trek years.

I have met this celebrity and role model her at conventions, where she has helped recruit minorities and women for NASA. She is fantastic.

Please enjoy her newest Star Trek film featured below, Of Gods and Men.

Natalie Portman

This particular actress is a favorite of science fiction fans around the world, ever since seeing her work in Star Wars as Queen Amidala, wearing the unique clothing, makeup, and hairstyles of the character.

Halle Berry

Lovely as herself, as Cat Woman, and even lovelier in her pregnancy photos seen often now in the news.

Ms. Berry’s work on the TV series Extant in 2014 and 2015 is better than some high budget theater films. She will surely remain a star for long to come.

Lena Horne

Miss Lena Horne is another great songstress lovely in youth and in later years.

From her role in Cabin in the Sky to several future more substantial roles in classic films of the Golden Age of TV and Movies to her classic rendition of the number Stormy Weather, she is a beauty for the ages.

Phylicia Rashad

Beautiful her whole life, apparently, this woman is a talented and well known actress, singer and stage director.

Excellent in two TV series with Bill Cosby and a star on Broadway in productions that include Into the Woods.

Mariska Hargitay

Exotic looking even in the long running TV series Law and Order:Special Victims Unit, Mariska is a lasting beauty.

Her character in SVU became the head of the division in the series, acting as a role model of young women in the workforce and as an advocate for victims of sexual assault and violence, no matter their age, gender, or any other demographic. This advocacy has become a lifetime commitment.

Mariska is the daughter of another beauty, actress Jayne Mansfield, who was also a genius who played classical violin for audiences on such shows as the Jack Parr Show. She acted because she loved the work. Body builder Mickey Hargitay was Jayne’s husband and Mariska’s father..

Jayne Mansfield

A gorgeous blonde, she made many B-level movies, but had studied physics at Southern Methodist University. She played the violin beautifully as well and had more potential than she was able to access, dying in an automobile crash at the age of 34. She is remembered for allowing audiences to know about her genius and abilities outside of acting. Real beauty does not hide one’s intelligence.

Uma Pemmaraju

Strikingly beautiful on television newscasts like “America’s News Headquarters with Uma Pemmaraju” for the Fox News enterprise, this reporter is straightforward and intelligent as well as attractive.

Uma has covered news for Fox since 1996 and has reported on the Boston Marathon Bombings, several presidential elections, and hard-to-access celebrities like Buzz Aldrin and his STEAM educational advocacy.

Shakira

Shakira is not only attractive, but engaging and fun. She does not have truckloads of “drama” in her life as do many other young actresses and performers. We never hear about drug abuse and such with this young woman.

Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a charity in her home country that set up special schools and food for poor children all around Colombia.

Claudette Colbert

Miss Claudette Colbert was a famous film star of the 1930s and 1940s who continued to act and model well into her 70s. Her physical appearance hardly changed a bit and she was a lasting beauty.

Claudette filmed two of the many “nude-except-for-a-mink-coat” photo layouts done by famous women for BlackGlamma Mink, including one in her 20s and a new pose about 50 years later in her 70s. I can scarcely tell the difference.

Not Airbrushed or PhotoShopped

Artists and photographers found it much more difficult to retouch photos in the antique 1970s magazines than it is with us today, so Ms. Colbert looked amazingly good, even in her 70s.

BlackGlamma still does such fur ads, with younger celebrities, so look for them.

The series was begun during an era when wearing fur signaled high social status and wealth. Today, stars like Janet Jackson and others are posing in mink.

Beauty in the Comics – Honorary Mention: Octobriana.

This figure was a comics heroine of the 1914 October Revolution in Russia. Her look has changed for the 21st century, but I think the image of her in an antique 1960s edition I have seen is dazzling!

The image below is a more modern issue of the character, which is in the public domain and gives rise to fanzines from time to time.
