Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul better known as V. S. Naipaul is one of India’s most celebrated authors. He was born in Trinidad and Tobago, which, like India, was a part of the British Empire at the time. He won the Booker Prize in 1971; he was awarded the Trinity Cross, Trinidad and Tobago’s highest national honour in 1989; he received a knighthood in Britain in 1990; he was hounoured with the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2001.
