The Indian fashion fraternity witnessed another setback on Thursday night, as renowned Kolkata-based fashion designer, Sharbari Datta was found dead inside a bathroom of her residence, late on Thursday night.

According to reports, the designer was found dead around 12.15 am and police officials rushed to her house as soon as they got the information.

Dutta was found lying unconscious in the bathroom of her Karaya home last night and the Kolkata police has registered a case of an unnatural death.

Initial medical investigations has suggested that Sharbari died of a sudden cardiac attack and the family confirmed that she was not suffering from any chronic ailment.

The designer was 63 when she breathed her last. She was not reachable on phone since morning, the family told PTI. The doctors diagnosed stroke as the reason for her death but sent the body for a post-mortem examination as it was found in the washroom, family sources said.

Dutta pioneered in men’s wear and her designs have been worn by Vidya Balan and many other actors. She was the daughter of celebrated Bengali poet Ajit Dutta, known for his literary innovations in the post-Rabindranath Tagore era.

SHUNYAA by Sharbari Datta, a label by the late designer was known for its rich Indian ensembles.
