QUERY: I am a working mother and finding it so difficult to handle both work and kids and house chores. I feel extremely guilty for not giving any time to my child but I am already going crazy multitasking throughout the day. The only time I talk to her is when I want her to eat. How do I handle this?

ANSWER BY DR RACHNA K SINGH: Hello, Thank you for writing to us.

Balancing work, home and kids can be a very tough multitasking arena. Your guilt and frustration are understandable but it is important to know that you do not need to blame yourself. Since you are seeking for help, you are taking a step in the right direction for your kid.

In a space where you have to manage almost everything and you seem to lack the parent-child bonding time, start making a planner to divide a day’s schedule and keep a track of to dos. Now in the time you allotted for your child try to make it fun. Start slow and nice, for example if you are feeding your child make it fun and interesting by playing games, when you bathe them try reading them a story in the tub. This can make the daily tasks a fun activity for you and your child. Plan your weekends in a balanced way for you and your child. Increase parent-child bonding by activities and games. If your child goes to a creche or school talk to them about what they learn and experience. Let them help you a little in daily household chores to help you bond even better.

Hope this helps. Feel free to follow up.
