Since ages, ghee has also been linked to pregnancy and is said to reap many benefits for expecting moms. Many people associate ghee with weight gain and cholesterol. The Charaka Samhita, an ancient centuries old Ayurvedic text says, “Out of all oils fit for human consumption, ghee is the best to eat.” It is also known as the ‘healing oil’ in the West which is enough to describe its benefits. Many dieticians and nutritionists recommend desi ghee for everyday cooking over refined oil. Specially for expecting women, desi ghee is a magic ingredient. From time immemorial, pregnant women have been consuming ghee for the overall improvement in their health.

Desi ghee is a form of healthy fat which can help in nourishing the baby in the womb. It not only tastes good but also gives the expecting mom enough energy for the day. From flushing out toxins to repairing damaged tissues, desi ghee also helps in straightening the immune system. Though it is said that ghee helps during delivery by providing lubrication, there is no scientific confirmation about it. Still, ghee has been used by generations together and helped in nurturing healthy babies.

Usage of ghee

It is said that a pregnant woman needs at least 200-300 extra calories than usual. Ghee can help in those extra calories in the healthiest way possible. While desi ghee ladoos can satiate cravings during pregnancy, cooking food with desi ghee can add to the nutrition factor. Even Kareena Kapoor confessed that during her pregnancy she used to add a spoonful of ghee to her dal and paratha.

It is said that consuming ghee during your last trimester is the most beneficial. While you can safely consume 1-3 tablespoons of ghee during pregnancy, you must also consult your doctor or dietitian for the same.
